[Harp-L] Big Walter Horton Mic/Amp

Along with a JT-30 (see cover photo SPAH summer 2008 "Harmonica
Happenings" magazine) Big Walter is widely known to have favored the large shell
Argonne AR54 / M-131. Identical mic's were sold as Monarch, Calrad, Herald &
other brand names. Surprisingly light weight, the Primo crystal element is
set way back in the deep shell, which gives it a very unique sound. I
don't recommend this mic for people who have smallish hands.

To further muddy the discussion I had a Shure 575 on my microphone table
at Jason Ricci's 2007 Denver "Rockers" seminar. Madcat walked up & told me
that Walter often used the 575 during their long association, so that's
another strong possibility.
Thing is, that man had TONE! Using the same mic (whichever it may have
been) might get a person a bit closer, which is always a good thing, but
unless you have it comin' from inside you'll never make the same beautiful
noise.
I have a few Argonne's on my shelves w/good crystals if anyone is
interested. Write me off-list, my email is in the header of this message.
